One of several versions Lladro offers of King Melchior, this one is 9" tall x 6.25" wide. King Melchior is from the Nativity Scenes series of Lladro Porcelain Figurines, and this is one most people building a Nativity set won't want to do without. The other two Wise Men are of course available here too, as are the camels and donkeys, sheep and oxen associated popularly with the Nativity stories. History tells us little about Melchior apart from the Christian tradition of having him as the first of the Three Kings, or Three Wise Men who journeyed "from the orient" to follow the Star which appeared over Bethlehem at the time Christ was born. We don't even know if he is the one who was bearing "gold, frankincense, or myrrh, but what we do know is that if you're going to have the Three Kings, you've got to have Melchior. Handmade and hand painted at the famed Lladro Porcelain Factory in Valencia, Spain, it's a great example of Lladro's legendary quality: the exquisite detailing, the marvelous finish, the overall beauty of these excellent porcelain sculptures. This is a great addition to any collection.
